FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Performing Arts Center at Kaua`i CC Voluntarily Pause Operations for 8 Weeks
By Juno Ann Apalla, EMBA, HCM
Lihue, HI., March 17, 2020 — Due to the continued venue closures and travel restrictions surrounding COVID-19 and in an abundance of caution, Kaua`i Community College made the decision to voluntarily pause venue operations of its state-of-the-art facility, the Performing Arts Center, aka Kaua`i CC PAC. The term is for 8 weeks effective immediately impacting events scheduled to occur through May 13, 2020.
University of Hawaii President David Lassner, “We will be following the new federal recommendations posted by CDC today, that for the next 8 weeks, we cancel or postpone public events of 50 or more people. We had previously used a threshold of 100 people absent any specific guidance.”
“It is important that this is being done in response to guidelines being provided by the CDC for safety and mitigation of the spread of COVID-19. We hope that when all is clear and sounded, we can return to enjoying these cultural events. In the interest of safety, I urge all PAC presenters and producers, as well as attendees, to consider an alternative plan according to the CDC’s guidelines,” Chancellor Joe Daisy.
These are unprecedented times, and while no clients, attendees, and employees of the PAC tested positive for COVID-19, we must take a leadership position as local, national, and global citizens to ensure that we are doing everything we can to help stabilize the situation.
We know this decision will be disappointing and also inconvenience clients and attendees who were looking forward to quality entertainment and information. For that, we sincerely apologize. All of us at Kaua`i CC, Office of Continuing Education, and Performing Arts Center are fully committed to supporting all our clients and attendees through this change.
“The Performing Arts Center at Kaua`i CC operates with high standards and we thank all of our clients, attendees, business partners, employees and the local community for their support during this challenging time,” added PAC Manager, Juno Ann Apalla. “We look forward to welcoming everyone back to our venue soon.”
All events that were scheduled to occur from now until May 13, 2020 are either canceled or postponed until further notice. Booked clients and their events are in the process of being notified and rescheduled. Clients who canceled without a chance of rescheduling their event will receive a 100% refund, and for clients who postponed, we will waive any cancelation fees and apply 100% of their security deposit to their future event(s).
Clients and attendees are asked to please view kauai.hawaii.edu/pac or facebook.com/uhkccpac as well as emails for more complete information on a show-by-show basis. Specific ticketing and exchange information can be addressed by the producing or presenting organization. We will maintain normal administrative function M-F 8 am - 4:00 pm.
