Kauai Community College promotes responsible borrowing. Borrow only what you need, since Federal Direct Student Loans do have to be paid back. To request a Federal Direct Student Loan, complete one or both of the following forms for each school year (Fall/Spring):

First Time Loan Borrower:
Please complete the following:
- Entrance Loan Counseling
- Master Promissory Note
Both the Master Promissory Note and Entrance Counseling can be completed at studentaid.gov
Upon login, locate “Complete Aid Process” at the top of the page. Select MPN for Undergraduates. The link to Complete Entrance Counseling is in the same area.
Please Note: The Department of Education requires a 30 day delay on loan disbursements for first time borrowers who are first year college students.
Transfer Student Borrowers:
If you have a borrowed a Federal Direct Student Loan at another college/university in the last 10 years, you do not need to do a new MPN. You must complete Entrance Counseling prior to your loan being processed at studentaid.gov. Once completed, and upon receipt of the signed Federal Direct Loan Request form by the Financial Aid Office, your loan will be processed.
Returning Student Borrowers:
Upon receipt of the signed Federal Direct Loan Request form by the Financial Aid Office, your loan will be processed.
Please Note: All loans will be disbursed in two disbursements, one in the fall and one in the spring (unless otherwise requested). If loans are needed for summer semester, please contact the Financial Aid Office.
